Name Giving Ceremonies

The name giving ceremony responds to the cultural and community need to welcome a child into the family. In western culture this ceremony goes back to pre-Christian Roman and Greek times.

Times now are changing and more informal naming days are important for families to welcome their baby or children into the family sharing a wonderful day with a ceremony reflecting the parents, grandparents and godparents love such as in my photo opposite where the three children together celebrated with family and friends their special naming day.

A child was not a member of the family until he or she was named at the naming ceremony. A name giving ceremony is not a baptism or a christening, though it is sometimes referred to as a 'secular christening'.
I would be very happy to work with with you to make your baby, or children's day a special day for them and for you.

I will assist in writing a ceremony that reflects your values and love for your child/children, I will assist in providing you with the resources to choose a reading or poem, that you feel will express your feelings for this special child you have brought into the world.

I will on the day provide a naming certificates for your baby/children each child will receive their own certificate, and Godparents each receive a certificate, after having given their committment to support, respect and most importatnly love this child or children.

There are lots of lovely things that can be done at a naming day to add that warm and fuzzy feeling such as the lighting of a unity candle, the realease of balloons, doves, or butterflies.
